Description
- NCU 947 Porcupine quilling is the oldest form of Native American embroidery dating back to the 17th century. It employs the stiff quills of porcupines that are softened and dyed and then woven into clothing ,leather and birchbark items for an aesthetic element. Geometric designs are often used to represent Native American symbolism. Quilled birchbark boxes and baskets were popular trade items to sell to European-Americans. Porcupine quill items are very sought after and highly collectible today. Colors include red, gold, black, and white.
